Shoot Low-to-the-Ground

Finding the right angle is about 70 percent of the work that goes into great interior photos. Generally, that means shooting from the floor up—it helps your space seem larger and more expansive. Around three to four feet from the ground is a good level. Just be careful to shoot straight on, rather than tilting the lens upwards.

Use Natural Light to Your Benefit

Sunlight is still the best available photo lighting, so try to save interior photo shoots for a sunny day. Open curtains and pull up shades to let in as much natural light as possible, and avoid using your camera’s flash. That being said, for exterior shots, a slightly cloudy day may be ideal, especially if your home is surrounded by trees or powerlines that could cast unsightly shadows.

Don’t Be Afraid to Take a Few Closeups

Yes, you want your home to seem spacious, but you also want it to appear cozy and welcoming, too. It’s not necessary to capture the whole room in each photo—a composed “scene” may be much easier on the eyes since there’ll be fewer elements to focus in on. Additionally, if your home has some attractive built-in features, like a beautiful tile inlay or a nice architectural window, make sure to get a few closeups that will allow potential buyers to admire these details.

Most of all, don’t be afraid to experiment—some of the best real estate photos are products of happy accidents. Rearrange furniture and try different angles until you have your ideal shot. You’ll thank yourself when the closing process comes off quickly and painlessly.
