The mangosteen is still an exotic underdog in the Northern Hemisphere and is not widely known. The fruit is usually ripe between November and December and can be as big as tomatoes. The vermeil skin reminds on leather and it protects the white, juicy flesh that is divided in different smaller segments. The taste of mangosteen can be compared to lychees and rambutan, but it does not taste like a mango, despite the similarity of the name.
