The telephone's invention in the late 19th century revolutionized the world of communication, which until then was dependent on the telegraph for sending and receiving messages quickly over long distances. The telephone has – and continues to – undergo an evolutionary process, with the current stage seeing a drastic decline of landline phones in homes, being replaced by mobile phones. In the public landscape, phone booths and vintage rotary phones have also almost disappeared.
