Many statues are famous landmarks and therefore under copyright protection. Photos of such statues cannot be defined as royalty-free material, but they might be used as editorial content. You should always do your research before sharing photos of statues and sculptures as some of them have very strict rules.
The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, Denmark is one of the country’s most well-known landmarks. Despite this, images taken with her being the main focus of the image cannot be used as neither royalty-free nor editorial material. Many big newspapers have been fined for using images of the statue, since usage is only allowed in connection with a clear news context. All images with The Little Mermaid where she is in focus are not allowed in the Colourbox database.
The Eiffel Tower
Images/footage of the Eiffel Tower can be used as royalty-free content, however, images/footage taken at night of the tower with the lights on can only be used as editorial content.
